Photo Sydney
Christopher Ireland is an Australian photographer and film director working across portrait photography, short documentary films, and written narrative.
His practice focuses on long-form storytelling, often returning to people and communities over extended periods to explore themes of human dignity, grief, resilience, and the passage of time. By revisiting subjects years later, his work examines how lives evolve beyond moments of crisis, creating a form of visual documentation that sits between art, documentary, and social history.
Ireland works independently through Christopher Ireland Creative, developing and directing projects from concept to completion while collaborating with a network of filmmakers, editors, writers, and graphic designers.
His work has been exhibited at Sydney Contemporary at Carriageworks and the Australian Centre for Photography, and is held in the permanent collections of the State Library of NSW and Latrobe Regional Gallery.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has directed commercial campaigns for organisations including Uber, Telstra, Canon, and the Australian Defence Force, and has received international recognition including Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, New York Art Directors Club, Spikes Asia, and AGDA.61
