Sydney-based photographers Caterina Pacialeo and Tina FiveAsh present a visual dialogue spanning over a decade. Though distinct in style, both artists share a deep interest in the unseen forces—elemental, emotional, and spiritual—that shape human experience. Their work, at once grounded and ethereal, reflects on presence, impermanence, and the quiet threads connecting humanity with nature. In this joint exhibition, Pacialeo and FiveAsh invite viewers to pause and feel their way into liminal spaces—where earth meets sky, word meets silence, and life meets mystery. Join celebrated Tiwi artist Carol Puruntatameri in conversation with the Coordinator of Munupi Arts at the Art Leven Booth J09 for an intimate artist talk exploring the deep cultural practice of bark painting. As Carol explains, “Ngarukuruwala Kapi Murrakupuni means ‘we sing to the land’”—a sacred act that connects artist, ancestor, and Country. This conversation will offer rare insight into how bark, ochre, and story are gathered and transformed into artworks that echo ancestral presence. Learn how these paintings become songs to Country—alive with rhythm, meaning, and memory.

Contemporary drawing: The Figure.

An award-winning artist, Yvonne East’s work has been hung in major prizes and institutions across Australia including the Archibald Prize and the Doug Moran Portrait Prize. Her portrait of the Honorable Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Susan Kiefel AC was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in 2020. Her Sydney Contemporary paintings explore female identity through vibrant and energetic works, with dazzling contraposto and expert foreshortening. How does she do it? A few secrets may be revealed to collectors of figurative work, as Yvonne discusses some of her techniques and exceptional skills as a drawer, painter and University of NSW Academic.

How Bark Paintings are Created & How to Care for Them.

Join us at Booth A09 for an engaging conversation with Art Leven Director Mirri Leven, celebrated Tiwi artists Carol and Alison Puruntatameri, and the Coordinator of Munupi Arts. Together, they will discuss the cultural significance and creative process behind Tiwi bark paintings, from harvesting natural materials on Country to the rhythmic painting techniques passed down through generations. The panel will also share practical advice on how to care for and display bark paintings in a respectful and lasting way, offering collectors and enthusiasts insight into both the cultural but also how to care for, hang and display these powerful works.
