Artist Erin Coates speaks to her new sculptural works produced especially for MOORE CONTEMPORARY at Sydney Contemporary. Equally curious and elegant her objects in bronze and silicon, and some mixed with fox fur, whale tooth and other media, are like talismans to her family maritime history, the whale bone yard off the coast of Albany and the so-called ghost specimens of extinct species she has researched. Much of Coates practice across film, drawing and objects stems from her interests in marine biology, free-diving and encounters with ecological and human fragilities.
