To celebrate 10 editions of Sydney Contemporary, join guest artist Tim Etchells, Founder of Sydney Contemporary, stepping into the world of the printmaker – where ideas become ink, gestures become marks, and a moment at the press becomes something you can hold.
EDITION-10 is a live printmaking demonstration with a twist: what emerges from the press may become a limited edition, or perhaps a one- or two-run ceremonial artist book – created once, celebrated once, and never repeated.

See printmaking come to life in this dynamic live demonstration with APW Printers Martin King and Simon White. Audiences will get an up-close look at the collaborative printing process as the APW printers discuss and demonstrate the skill, precision and hands-on techniques that transform creative ideas into finished prints. This is a rare chance to experience the craft behind the artwork — selected works printed during the demonstration will be given away to audience members.

Experience a live printmaking demonstration by Chunwoo Nam, Founder and Director of the Print Art Research Center (PARC), Seoul. A graduate of the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico, Nam has spent decades working as a master printer, collaborating with artists and promoting contemporary printmaking through education and international exchange.
This year’s démonstration explores à la poupée technique, in which multiple colours are hand-applied to a single intaglio plate before printing. Visitors will see how carefully controlled inking creates rich, colorful impressions from a single plate. The demonstration will also include printing on traditional Korean hanji paper, highlighting the unique qualities of this handmade paper in contemporary printmaking.

Janet Parker-Smith will demonstrate the analogue process of collage while showing a variety of approaches to the medium. She will discuss the use of found imagery, cutting, slicing, glues and professional rag papers for the collage process, while demonstrating intricate paper compositions and showing experimental ways of constructing an image.

Watch printmaker Andrew Totman and ceramic artist Hayley West push the boundaries of printmaking in this exciting collaborative demonstration. Using clay slabs, pots and fired vessels as printing surfaces, they will create striking one-off prints that reveal unexpected textures, patterns and possibilities.
