Art Night

The Opening Night of Sydney Contemporary – Art Night – presents an all-encompassing evening of art, performance, music and ideas on Thursday 5 September from 5.30pm – 9pm.

Catch performances throughout the evening, listen to a special DJ set, explore the large-scale artworks in Installation Contemporary, and of course see and buy works of art by over 400 emerging and established artists across 85+ galleries.

Performance Art: HOSSEI, a multidisciplinary artist with Persian, Turkish, and Russian ancestry, presenting two performances of his major work ESSSENSSSE. The performance, featuring ten performers and a vibrant installation, is about letting go and being one with the spirit and embracing its purity and vulnerability. ESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE is the next morning, the BODY, MIND, SPIRIT after a big night, looking at the sea for new beginnings.

DJ: Hear a special DJ set by DJ Charlie Villas, a musician hailing from the Phillipines and now based in the picteresque Blue Mountains on Darug and Gundagurra land. Charlie is one of Australia’s favourite party starters and highly sought-after DJs, as a celebrated vibe maker and dancefloor legend.
