WHALING ROAD STUDIO
Paper
Whaling Road Studio is a Sydney-based fine art print workshop and publisher dedicated to collaborating with artists to produce limited-edition prints of exceptional quality. Founded in 1978, the studio has played an important role in the development of contemporary Australian printmaking for more than four decades, with master printmakers Diana Davidson and Peter Stevens contributing to its growth and ongoing program.
Working across techniques including etching, woodcut, relief printing and monotype, the studio provides a highly collaborative environment where artists can translate ideas from painting and drawing into print. Whaling Road Studio works with a wide range of Australian artists, including both Indigenous and non-Indigenous practitioners, supporting them through the technical and creative processes involved in printmaking.
The studio’s program emphasises craftsmanship, experimentation and close artist–printer collaboration. Through its publishing activities and exhibitions, Whaling Road Studio aims to expand the possibilities of print as a contemporary art form while making high-quality original prints accessible to collectors and audiences. Its long-standing relationships with artists and institutions reflect an ongoing commitment to sustaining and evolving the practice of fine art printmaking in Australia.
