Caterina Pacialeo is an Australian artist whose practice spans more than 35 years, grounded in the exploration of elemental forces, natural landscapes, and the quiet mysteries that shape human experience. Her work draws deeply on the four classical elements Air, Fire, Earth, and Water capturing their poetic interplay and their enduring connection to the human soul. Through this lens, Pacialeo creates artworks that evoke stillness, transience, and a timeless dialogue between nature and inner reflection.
Exploring her practice with cyanotypes, Pacialeo engages slow, tactile, and alchemical methods. She hand coats French mould made papers with light sensitive chemistry, exposes them under natural UV light, and transforms their surfaces with delicate applications of 18kt gold leaf. This analogue methodology honours authenticity of process and the intimate relationship between light, chemistry, and time.
Her current body of work extends this elemental focus into the cosmos, drawing inspiration from black holes, galaxies, and imagined astral terrains. These pieces explore humanity’s internal connection to pure source energy and the vast, intangible forces that shape our universe. By contrasting the materiality of hand crafted processes with the immeasurable expanse of space, Pacialeo invites viewers into a contemplative space where human scale craft meets celestial wonder.
Exhibiting nationally and internationally, Pacialeo offers work that is both grounded and ethereal a meditation on presence, impermanence, and the unseen threads connecting humanity to nature and to each other. Her practice encourages viewers to pause, breathe, and step into the subtle places where earth meets sky and the known meets the mysterious.
