HOW DOES A GALLERY APPLY TO SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY?
To apply, galleries must complete the online application, by creating an account and supplying the compulsory material required for consideration by the Selection Committee. Applications for SC17 will open in July 2016.
HOW ARE GALLERIES SELECTED FOR THE FAIR?
The Selection Committee is comprised of an industry panel of highly regarded local and international gallerists and curators. The committee selects participants in accordance with criteria of quality and suitability for the Sydney Contemporary 2017 concept.
WHEN WILL I LEARN IF MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL?
Applicants will be advised of the Selection Committee decision in writing.
I AM AN ARTIST, CAN I APPLY TO SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY 2017?
Only commercial galleries or artist agents with a consistent exhibition history who present a minimum of 4 exhibitions per year in their own business premises, external project spaces or art fairs can apply to participate at Sydney Contemporary.
We do not accept applications from self-representing artists.
HOW MANY GALLERIES WERE AT SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY IN 2015?
In 2015, Sydney Contemporary showcased over 90 galleries with an exhibitor list spanning countries from 5 continents. Over 35% of galleries were international, including representatives from Argentina, Chile, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
WHO ATTENDS SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY?
Sydney Contemporary attracts an international audience of artists, gallerists, collectors, museum directors, and curators, as well as people who simply appreciate modern and contemporary art.
HOW MANY PEOPLE VISITED SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY IN 2015?
Over 32,000 visitors attended the 2015 edition of Sydney Contemporary.
WHERE IS SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY HELD?
Sydney Contemporary is held at Carriageworks, the striking nineteenth century Eveleigh Rail Yards, located within an evolving urban arts precinct. Carriageworks is central to Sydney’s urban creative hub, and well known for its dynamic cultural events, Saturday farmers market, and community engagement.
WHO RUNS THE CURATORIAL PROGRAM AT THE FAIR?
Sydney Contemporary will appoint a series of curatorial specialists to administer the varying art fair projects. These specialists are leaders in their fields and will ensure the delivery of a high calibre program.
WILL THERE BE OTHER EVENTS RUNNING ALONGSIDE SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY?
A designated VIP program will accommodate novice and experienced collectors over the duration of the Fair, providing exclusive access to Fair highlights at both Carriageworks and at offsite locations. In addition, an extensive program of public events will be developed to run alongside the Fair, highlighting the cultural life of the city.
