Keith Wikmunea is a Wik-Alken/Wik Mungkan artist from the Wik & Kugu Art Centre in Aurukun who won the prestigious NAATSIA Award with his ground-breaking sculpture Ku’, Tear-wit & Kalam-bang: The White Cockatoo, Galah and the wandering Dog 2023. This honour signalled a transformation in the artist’s sculptural practice and marked a remarkable revolution of profound cultural reorientation and developing artistic endeavours of the community in Aurukun. The artist will be present with Gabe Waterman, Wik & Kugu Art Centre Manager, to discuss his latest commission for the Sydney Contemporary Art Fair and the trajectory of Aurukun sculpture.
