Demonstration: Painting on vellum & gold leaf illumination with Artist Dianne Longley

Dianne’s new works revisit her earlier unique works of painted gouache on vellum whereby influences from illuminated manuscripts and Indian miniatures combine with her use of theatre metaphors and notions of chance and fortune. These rare works take the form of small paintings on vellum with gold leaf illumination. Dianne will demonstrate how vellum is prepared for painting, and how she works with gouache paints and gold leaf illumination. Dianne’s concertina book Theatre of Embarkation (1986) created with gouache paintings on vellum and her new work will be discussed during her demonstration.
